Action > Wind

Calculates the relevant vibration amplitudes due to turbulent Wind impact. The program performs a modal analysis based on the natural modes previously calculated with the action Eigen. The excitation is defined by the turbulence intensity and power spectrum specified for the respective wind event.

SettingDescription
Action Code of the selected Action. It is possible to switch to another action without leaving and re-entering the input function.
Action will be skipped (Option) The action will be skipped in the calculation process if the option is selected.
Input 1: Wind number Number of the considered wind event (wind profile)
Input 1: (Type of Damping Dependency) RAYCURVE (Rayleigh damping curve): This input refers to damping curve defined using Rayleigh input in the Recalc pad. ANGFREQ (Angular frequency damping curve): This input refers to the damping table definition as angular frequency (rad/sec) Vs damping ratio. CYCFREQ (Cyclic frequency damping curve): This input refers to the damping table definition as cyclic frequency (Hz) Vs damping ratio. Mode (mode number damping curve): This input refers to the damping table definition as mode number Vs damping ratio. Note: If nothing selected, constant damping will be considered in the calculation.
Input-1: (Damping Table Name) Name of the table (variable) describing the relationship between the frequency
Input-2: Damping constant Damping factor, logarithmic decrement Delta! (absolute value, not in percent).
Note: Input of 0.01 means 1% decrease of the amplitude per cycle. Note that most design codes do not specify the decrement (Delta) but the damping ratio to critical (Zeta=Delta/(2*pi)). The recommended values of the design codes are varying to a very great extent. Recommended values for earthquake analyses are generally much higher than those for wind analyses, due to the fact that the influence of the foundation is more important than in wind analyses. Eurocode recommends for wind analyses decrement values of 0.02 (steel) to 0.1 (cracked concrete), this corresponds to a damping ratio of 0.3 to 1.6 % (earthquake 2 to 5 % or more).
Input-2: Dx:Dy:Dz Direction vector of the static part of the wind impact
Input-3: Modal file    Name of the modal file containing the relevant natural modes
Input-3: ALL or ACTIVE The calculation can be done for all or only for active elements.
Output file (*.sup) The name of the superposition file, where the results will be stored
List File Name of list file where the results are output.  If the default '*' is accepted, the name of the list file is set automatically: e.g. wind0001.lst if the number of the wind profile is 1. Pay attention if the same wind event is used for several wind directions.

Empty input: no list file will be created!

Delta-T Duration of the Action (not applicable for this action)
Description Descriptive text for the selected Action (max. 80 characters)
